Decent Neeson Flick. Better than reviews say it is.

It's not a masterpiece, but pretty decent flick. I enjoyed it more than Honest Thief. Much more of a drama/thriller than a straight up action movie.

I agree. I thought the best parts of the story were when Neeson and the boy were talking during the chase north. The boy playing Miguel was a good actor and made the character come across as genuine and kind. The scene where he suddenly started speaking English was pretty funny because it basically left Neeson’s character (the native English speaker) almost speechless. The movie also had Neeson battle with wanting to quit on the kid multiple times only to relent and help him again due to the promise to the mother. There were some very clever and original moments in the script and movie that helped distinguish it from being all trope like the professional critics are claiming.

Yeah, I mean there's nothing groundbreaking about the story, but it's pretty well-executed. Neeson makes anything he's in better and I'd say overall the film is slightly above average.

Whether or not you're going to take to it probably depends on if you like movies like this. Myself, I'm an action movie fiend, and so I'm willing to watch just about anything from the genre as long as it's not totally forgettable, generic dreck that has nothing at all going for it.

The Marksman is certainly not the best of the action thrillers that Neeson has done, but it's not the worst either and I found it entertaining enough that I didn't regret it at the end.

Great description and in the end, if you’re entertained, that’s the whole point of watching a film. Just doesn’t matter what the critics think

I enjoyed it.

Meh - I had to skip through half of it and I still felt like I wasted my time watching it.
I'd say 'honest thief' is much better - as far as his latest offerings are concerned.

I probably liked Honest Thief more, but The Marksman isn't bad. It's certainly better than its 34% RT score or 5.6 IMDB score would indicate. I would call it a "perfectly watchable" 6.5, elevated slightly above the writing on the page by the casting and performances.
