Steven Parent

It would have been nice to acknowledge the (fictional) fate of Steven Parent in OUATIH. Even something very subtle.

Or maybe there is something very subtle that I missed?

No...they just elected to leave Parent out.

His was the most "unfair" murder of the night. At least Tate lived at the home and invited friends there. Parent simply drove up on the driveway after answering some sort of ad to buy something from ANOTHER person who was there that night -- and who did NOT get killed. There was a young caretaker on the premises. He woke up the next morning to find five dead bodies , and called the cops, who questioned him but soon ruled him out as the killer.

I suppose if QT had included Steven Parent, he would have had to include the caretaker, too. He just dropped them and went with Tate and friends.

By the way, in real life, the Tate killers were NOT killed by anyone that night. They killed Tate and her friends, and Steven Parent, and then a few nights later killed a middle-aged couple(the LaBiancas) just as random choices to "terrorize the community."

And this year, in 2023, one of those Manson killers -- who left a fork in the stomach of Mr. LaBianca and stabbed Sharon Tate multiple times -- was released from California prison.

Doesn't seem very fair to the victims...

Parent went to sell a Sony clock radio to the young caretaker William Garretson.

William Garretson did not call the cops, he didn't know the murders took place. What really happened is the maid found the dead bodies, she then ran down the street yelling bloody murder and a neighbor called the cops. Once the cops arrived they found Garretson in a little guesthouse. They woke him up and led him to the 2 bodies outside the residence(Frokowski and Folger). Garretson denied he had anything to do with the killings. However, he was still arrested and spent 2 days in jail. They gave him a polygraph, which he passed and then released.

Well, damn...I was working from a very old memory. At least I got SOME of it right. But not enough. Also, I elected not to comment on details I simply didn't remember -- like Garretson spending two days in jail -- I remember it looked bad for him for awhile -- the newspapers pounced on his being found there alive.

A very lucky man as it turned out.

I won't delete my post...as it led to a more educated answer.

Considering the way Tarantino alters actual events, does it really matter?

In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter but had the events in OUATIH happened in reality, it would have affected Steven Parent, as well. I just think that having a car drive away from Sharon Tate’s house would have been a nice touch.

I am in no way suggesting that OUATIH needs improvement. It is one of my favourite movies.
