What the hell is wrong with Joaquin Phoenix's back?

I noticed his weird ass physique in The Master too. His shoulders and wingblades look asymmetrical. He looks like the hunchback of norte dame from behind. it really creeps me out.

Yeah, one of his shoulders seems to be disfigured. I noticed it in gladiator as well

You may be describing scoliosis, I don't know if Phoenix has it but it's common enough.

Which would totally work for the role of the Joker, who should look malformed. IMHO Heath Ledger actually faked that sort of thing when he played the role, held himself off center to give himself that subtle "wrong" look.
