Half of a great adaptation

I've read both of the source novels (In the Woods and The Likeness). I felt that the parts adapted from TL suffered from a lack of time to breathe and develop the relationships between the housemates. I very much enjoyed the parts adapted from In the Woods. Yes, the book was somewhat infamous for not resolving all the mysteries, but I'm in the camp that this was the best and truest choice for the author. If anything, the show seemed to offer more definite pointers to what the answer(s) might be.

I thought Killian Scott did a bang up job of portraying Rob, the lead detective, who is incredibly damaged and damaging. Other supporting roles like Rosalind and also Frank the undercover detective were really well done.

I didn't find it particularly slow, just thorough. I might have more patience with it since I knew the original material, but the performances made me feel like I was discovering it all over again.
