4/10. Four reasons this movie was mediocre at best...

i. Dwayne Johnson. He seemed seriously bored throughout this movie.

ii. Ryan Reynolds. He needs to retire the Deadpool schtick that he drags out for nearly all of his action movies. He's actually been doing it for over twenty years now since the days of Blade III to the point where he's a one man cliche.

iii. Gal Gadot. Yes she looks good in a clingy dress, but -- let's be honest -- her acting and charisma are meh at best in any of her movies. There was zero chemistry between her and Johnson.

iv. The CGI. For the love of God and all that's holy, stop the s****y CGI! It was so distracting in this movie. The studio lighting didn't match the out-of-focus rendered backgrounds at all throughout this film. That bull scene... just ugh! This one practice alone might have accounted for the mediocre acting. It must be hard for an actor to muster up the emotional mojo necessary to sell a scene when they are standing in front of green drop cloths day after day.

I won't be watching any sequels...

Agreed. I think Gal Gadot might have chemistry with other actors, but i most certainly didn't see it here.
Ryan Reynolds.... he really does play the same character in all films these days... and in this film, again, due to lack of chemistry, it didn't work at all. I think the script/the acting - these fell flat.
Basically, the chemistry wasn't there - things didn't click.

Ryan Reynolds is contractually obligated to keep his schtick at that level. If he tones it down more than a fraction he becomes Paul Rudd and that's not allowed.

reply

Ha! Paul Rudd is sort of Ryan Reynolds-lite, isn't he?
