Why all the George Michael music?

Just wondering if there was a reason the music in this film was all George Michael tunes. I know the movie idea came from a George Michael song but the whole soundtrack has only his tunes. Was it ever explained?

Saw a clip of Emma Thompson talking about the film and as I remember she said something like "... who doesn't love George Michael". I assumed that the choice followed on from original idea.
Personally I wish they'd broadened the choice because I found the soundtrack forgettable and unhelpful to the story.

Which one was Emma Thompson, anyway? I don't remember her in it.

The mother, she was speaking with an accent and being more than usually fussy.

reply

Oh that was Emma. I see...

I don't recall hearing "Wake Me Up Before You Gogo". Was it in there?

The whole movie was a tribute to George Michael.

And the whole story (once you know the ending!) was based on a single line of a George Michael song!

I'm guessing you didn't spot Andrew Ridgely in the audience singing at the end?

I would never watch this movie because of that piece of shit song. It and every one of the 412 copies of Last Christmas suck.
