Mark Hamill as Chucky

He’s officially going to voice the killer doll in this new incarnation

I always said if anyone were to ever voice Chucky in a movie other than Brad Dourif, it should definitely be someone with a Joker-esque quality in their voice (a really effective one, at that). Well, as it turns out the man behind the most iconic Joker voice (arguably?) is set to be the new Chucky! I was already looking forward to this movie but now I’m legit excited.

Why didn't Brad do the voice?

Short answer: they wanted someone else to be the new Chucky.

Casting another actor as the voice of Chucky feels appropriate considering this upcoming movie will be a remake that’s going to “sorta” reinvent Chucky, e.g. there won’t be any supernatural elements in this one. I know to many Brad is simply irreplaceable as Chucky, but since they have a slightly different vision for this new Child’s Play, then I say having a new voice for Chucky only makes sense (plus Brad has already done 7 movies). As such, I think Hamill is the perfect man for the job.

I doubt Brad is done with Chucky, by the way. Don Mancini is planning on making future Chucky movies (released straight to video of course) and I don’t see anyone replacing Brad in those movies. There is reportedly also a Child’s Play series in the works by Mancini himself, so it’s unlikely Brad is done with the role... he just won’t be voicing the new big screen Chucky (personally, I’m feeling more intrigued by the remake).

I'm imagining Chucky laughing and people going "That's the Joker!" in the theater.

Indeed. If there is one thing I can’t wait to see/hear Hamill’s Chucky do, is laugh. Chills! :)

He sounds a bit like Brad

I found he sounded just like the Teddy Bear in the Video Game Among the sleep. He was creepy. I admit I like the original better cause it's creepier having Chucky being an actual serial killer magically putting his consciousness into a doll.
A serial killer getting a small kid to do his bidding is creepier than just some AI robot whose circuits weren't programmed right cause a guy in Vietnam was mad at his boss. That reminds me it bothered me that guy at the beginning who was responsible for it got off scotch free.
