shareI take it you never really read Black Panther in the comics. He has been around for years. Marvel was VERY progressive in bringing in diversity to it's stories. There were several black superheroes besides Black Panther. Falcon and Storm just to name a few.
shareBlack Panther was invented in the 1960's during the Civil Rights era. Marvel has been around since the 30's and it never had a large black audience. Marvel is based in Germanic mythology.
It was always a cynical attempt by Marvel to expand its market. And it never really caught on. Few blacks read the Black Panther comic or were even aware of it.
Just as Thor and Loki are borrowed from Teutonic mythology, real black superheros could have been taken from African mythology. But Marvel never deigned to do that.
There is nothing from African mythology in the Black Panther movie. Like I said, it's Germanic superheroes in blackface.
