When the first movie made 1.4B....

Everyone was using it as proof that it was a great movie, and how diversity really sells.

Same with Captain Marvel.

Now that the sequel is going to make about half that amount, suddenly there are all of the caveats about how the first movie was a cultural phenomenon at a special moment in history, and blah blabh blah.

Convenient.

How is black panther diverse?

The 2 credited writers and director are black. The main cast bar Martin Freeman are black and is about a locked away homgenous country.

Doesn't sound very diverse

reply

I am using "diverse" in the newspeak meaning of the word. ie. Black.

reply

I though it meant "Anything but white"

reply

technically yes, but in practice it means black. Because most non-white Americans are black, and people who push woke shit are mostly rich white ignorant American fucks.
This is why for example Rings of Power has lots of black actors in it, to "look like the world WE live in today", despite the fact that there are far more South Asians than black people in modern day England.

What is your grudge against the new Black Panther film? You've put up I don't know how many posts full of nonsense and straw men, all trying to make the film out to be some kind of failure. Before it was even released, expectations were that it might end up with a global box office total anywhere between $400 million, which would be total failure, and $1 billion, which would be outlandish success beyond expectations. It brought in $332 billion during its opening weekend, which suggests it will go on to earn a total closer to the high end of what was expected.

Meanwhile, you've set an impossible benchmark of "anything less than $1.5 billion makes it a flop." In other words, if it doesn't end up being one of the ten highest-grossing films in the history of cinema, it flopped. That's objectively foolish thinking.

If you dislike the film, so be it, but what's the point of making one foolish post after another trying to paint a successful film as a flop? No one that doesn't harbor the same pre-existing grudge as you is going to do anything other than laugh at you, so why bother?

It will turn a small profit. Not bad for a big budget film in 2020 that isn't about Navy Pilots.
