King (Arthur?)

I noticed the King said "sit besides me". It seems like "sit beside me" is more grammatically correct, so I was wondering if "besides" was what they said back in that time period?

I haven't read anything like that in my browsing of medieval literature, but it could have just been a slip-up on the actor's part, and I'm sure similar slip-ups happened in the past - even from the mouths of kings.
