Filmed with IMAX camera; see it on an IMAX screen; skip 3D

Shang-Chi was filmed with IMAX cameras and it is well worth seeing in an IMAX theater! After seeing the dark images in a 3D show, IMAX is like night and day. WOW, really sharp images on a huge screen. I suspect this might be a contributing reason why the initial release was in theaters only. I liked this film and the bus scene is worth the price of admission.

Many multiplex theaters have scheduled multiple showings of Shang-Chi in 3D. I actually like 3D if it is done well. It is cool to bring a school-aged child and see them stick their hand out to try to touch a 3D image shooting out at the audience. But I disagree with the great 3D review this film got on a site that reviews 3D films. https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2573080/to-3d-or-not-to-3d-shang-chi-and-the-legend-of-the-ten-rings-simu-liu-MCU

They gave it 5 out of 5 in six categories and 4 out of 5 on Brightness. I saw it in 3D: it was just way too dark, or 2 out of 5 on Brightness. There were too few instances of 3D images jumping out at the audience. Not worth the premium ticket price for 3D.

I'm a big fan of 3D and had the same experience with "Shang-Chi". I saw it first in RealD 3D on the Thursday before the official Friday premiere. To start with, the theater (my local AMC in Huntsville, AL) had the settings wrong on the projector and the 3D wasn't working and the picture was blurry with or without glasses. They fixed it a few minutes in and then restarted the movie a couple of minutes later. The movie presentation in 3D was dark and muddy and looked low definition, the onscreen subtitles were not sharp, the 3D was mostly unnoticeable. It was a disappointing presentation. I saw it again on Tuesday in Imax 2D and the difference was amazing. The picture was bright and crisp, the colors popped a lot more, onscreen subtitles were razor sharp, it was an excellent presentation and the movie is awesome!

I'm set up for 3D at home, and since they no longer sell new 3D movies in the USA I buy the Marvel movies in 3D region-free from Amazon UK. I may skip buying this one in 3D, though.

Clearly the problem with the 3D was the cinema's fault, no?
