When Maria kills the mother sheep, the gun sounds like a muffled .22 rifle.

When the Minotaur kills Ingvar, the rifle is now a very loud high caliber hunting rifle.

Lol. Probably for maximum impact as it the climax of the film. I didnt mind

Are you sure it was the same rifle? When I was a kid my dad had both a .22 and a .30-06 in the house. To a casual observer they would look very similar, but sound very different.
