Yes. I've seen animals shot and dying, this donkey was shot and died. If you pay attention you see that a front leg has been tied down, look at the manner in which it tries to move back. It nearly fell prior to being shot because of this. This is not an American film with American rules. Edit: The only reference to this is once in an Irish newspaper; "Dr Malone recalled one early-morning scene when a donkey had to be ‘shot’ outside the hotel and a vet was brought in to anaesthetise it briefly for the scene. But a local landowner, who was oblivious to the steps being taken to protect the animal, approached the crew and shouted: “There’ll be no donkey shot on this farm.”" 1. It was already established that a donkey would be anesthetized and killed. 2. The donkey does appear anesthetized. 3. They only needed to move to another location.
