The way I see it, Jack was just a naturally gifted player for the vast majority of his career. Because of that, he was probably able to get by on talent alone and didn't take conditioning seriously. His coaches likely didn't care for that attitude, but he was producing when it mattered, so they just left well enough alone. As Jack got older, his knees got bad (which he tried to use as an excuse to get out of team exercises upon arriving in Japan), his bat speed started to decrease, and even his hand/eye coordination was betraying him. It got to the point where he finally took it seriously when there was no other alternative, but better late than never. Sometimes when you're younger, you view things in a movie like this one way but then as you get older you can see things from the adult perspective. I was 12 when this movie came out and am now 39, but my opinion on this scene has never changed. Kevin was completely right in this situation. His family deserved to get chewed out for taking Buzz's side and not seeing through his phony apology (not to mention getting in a shot at Uncle Frank for being a cheapskate). He has no reason to apologize to Buzz. I think she would've rather the kids not seen it, but deep down she was just glad the SOB got what was coming to him I'm thinking it's more likely he didn't anticipate having a life-altering dinner meeting getting scheduled at the same time in the exact same restaurant "She" tried to, but Natalie insisted she come and Daniel/Mrs. Doubtfire didn't have the heart to say no to her I remember in the trailers for the movie, they basically portrayed his character as an extension of The Richmeister from SNL as that character was at the height of its popularity at the time View all replies >
