Good to have something we can ALL agree on... I don't have anything against Tom Cruise or big dumb action films (The '99 Mummy is one) and I gave the reboot a chance. My reaction is probably the worst of all - The reboot is mediocre on a level that makes me think of old TV movies... Not the great ones like Duel or The Night Stalker but ones like Cruise into Terror. The sort of film that will hold a special place only in the hearts of a few who saw it as a child and remember it as seen through the eyes of a ten year old. It's what you get when a movie is terribly weak in the three essential categories: Brains, Balls and Heart. And proud of it. I agree with you fully...except that this is the last appearance of Michael Myers that I have any interest in... I mean, aside from the very odd and totally separate case of Rob Zombie's weirdness. I suppose the civil war battle portions of GB&W bugs me a bit, but not enough that I would bother to contrast it poorly with OUaT... which may be the better film... I suppose. I rarely see actual bad acting in films. What I saw here seemed good to me. The characters all came across as believable, with the transition from "on air" to "off air" seeming real. People often complain about acting when what they mean is that "the dialog was poorly written" or "the characters didn't behave the way I would expect". Just following through with the concept. Please look at the poster art of older black and white films. And I really do like the first one. I will see this one soon. Thanks! Overall, I suppose TNG is better, but it had a lot more episodes, no budget cut final season and generally more freedom to tell different stories. The Klingon material is very good, and the percentage of really bad episodes is lower. But, I prefer TOS. It was fresher. And, for the lesser number of episodes, it has a higher rate of excellent episodes even while it has a higher rate of bad ones. I'll be watching today or tomorrow. My head is spinning here... You are damn near to making sense again! If I was inclined to try making sense of such wildly inconsistent sequels, I'd have to say pretty much what you are saying. I prefer this sort of creative patchwork to claiming every goddamn movie in the series is set in a different universe. Truth, in this case, is that I don't find it worth either explaining the inconsistencies or bothering to theorize different time streams. Truth is, that it is utterly inescapable that the makers just didn't give a damn if it made sense. They needed a sequel to the first film and were uninterested in Pierre Boule's "Planet of the Men" concept with Taylor leading a resurgent human race against their ape oppressors... It got even worse when they realized that Beneath made a bunch of money and they had to come up with a sequel to a movie where everyone and everything died at the end. View all replies >
