I still use a CRT and an old motorola burner phone. I love seeing that stuff in 2000s movies.
I think a film should be intended to be more than mildly enjoyable. I watched ragnarok again a few days ago and my eyes just glazed over. Not one aspect of these marvel things is actually filmic. Nothing is visually striking, nothing is shot in a way that lends any kind of gravitas or flair to what is occurring. It’s just mildly amusing tv comedy writing with mildly bad tv comedy cinematography. If this is worse than ragnarok I literally cannot imagine why anyone would pay to see it.
I don’t really agree. I don’t think mechanical = mediocre. Yes it has a very boilerplate structure, but it executes that structure excellently and it deserves praise for doing that. I don’t care if I can predict what’s going to happen as long as I feel that the film earned that inevitable emotional payoff. Even though I have been primed for a reconciliation the moment I see rooster and maverick on screen together, it is woven into the script and the action well enough that I am psychologically primed for it when it occurs and experience a satisfying emotional conclusion to an arc that was set up earlier. It’s not ground-breaking, but it is done extremely well. Combine that with thrilling practically shot action and you have a great action movie. It doesn’t need to subvert my expectations, just set things up well enough that it earns the payoff. It won me over and managed to manipulate my emotions to where they were intended to be in each sequence without me feeling like I was being cheated. Something recent films have forgotten
so true. just a few guys oiling up and hitting the volley ball pitch. that’s classic 80s americana and it was captured beautifully by the late great tony scott. sun, sand, and buff dudes just playing, tackling one another, maybe a small kiss in the changing rooms. alpha male 80s stuff that we just don’t see anymore. i mean where’s that sexual tension between iceman and maverick in the sequel? the atmosphere that they could break out into sweaty animal love making after a tense day training up in the air? it’s gone. sacrificed to the woke gods. also there was a chick in it (ewww, who wants to see that) and the black dude didn’t even get his cock out. woke trash and an insult to the original
