Kiernan's appearance, to me, was in the 14 or so age range, not 12 as the novel clarified.

Wonder why Devon--having seen her mom and Brett in the kitchen unnoticed--walked away with a quick and quiet laugh.
I'm glad someone else agrees. A girl who practically leaps from her bed from a mess of dolls, starts breathing fast and takes the downstairs 3 at a time is surely into the guy a bit more than just needing a nice guy to befriend.
I saw a version where, when Devon ascended the steps of the fabricated Keller friend and watched her gullible mom drive off, she was off like a bullet and doffelbagged enough for a week at Trent's; simultaneously we hear the lyrics as a song called "Doctor's Orders" is performed (last line being, 'I miss MY MAN!).....
"He HAS a job," Devon said in defense, got up from the rable, and gave her mom a most penetratingly hateful gaze.
I do believe Devon was in love with Trent.....
