I heard him state years ago he cut it to give Rusty more of an edgier look. Not the usual harmless, floppy haired hero Ford was always playing.

whether they stick with the wife or not, I was thought it was really clumsy police work not to suspect her in the first place, since Rusty had an affair.

Aside from a few of the first season 1 episodes where they're still sort of finding their way, I pretty much don't have many episodes I despise. The one where Fay sells off her husbands' stuff is pretty yawn inducing, and then where Lowell is trying to make artwork for Casey was really a slog to get through. But is helped enormously by the whole genital photogag that Brian does 🤣🤣
I don't think he so much wanted to do Ned and Stacy as much as he wanted to get away from Wings and be the lead of his own show. Ned and Stacy was sort of a poorer precursor to Will & Grace with its plot line (which makes sense why Messing ended up on that show). But from what I read since the very beginning of season 1 Church wanted off Wings, but had to fulfill his contract.
Should have counted himself lucky because outside of Sideways, he's sort of an odd actor with his harder looks and country tone to his voice. With Lowell it gave the writers an outlet to write non sequitur oblong jokes knowing he could sell them. Although it's odd that he is often cited as the favorite Wings character among fans even though Lowell was a completely one-dimensional personality.
As far as his departure the writers obviously just decided to neglect the fact that Lowell had two kids that he was so effortlessly leaving behind.
Cool to hear that because it's still one of my favorite comfort shows, essentially because of the setting and the small town life atmosphere.
It was more of a shoehorn plot point because they had to address Bernard's real life accent. How did they do that? They had her and her parents move from Texas at the age of 10 (who moves to Nantucket from Texas to run a lunch counter??) and then they leave her behind and go back to Texas. They address Casey's non accent as her being a snob but there's also some sister from Hawaii (can't remember the name) whose referred to early in the series but never seen. Fay claims to have lived in Syracuse but has a Midwestern sound; I never noticed Tim Daly having any New York sound despite being born there but at times Weber's New York style of 'tawk' slips in here and there.
Nailed on both fronts. First about Fox staying on the show because obviously he *was* the show and he couldn't leave (I'm assuming the OP was just asking an obvious question within the confines of the show's world). And yes a perfect example in the Art of Nick. To me basically Nick was like Joey on Friends, good for a few gags here and there but impossible to allow to carry an entire show because of his lack of sophistication. Which is exactly why Joey didn't last as a spin-off because his character is too dumb to be the center of a show and hold it together.
And did Alex have any catchphrases? That doesn't really apply. Not only did it address the Birney pregnancy stuff, it gave the writers countless junior Alex jokes to inundate the show with.
You had this massively popular character and now you were giving Andy all of these money jargon, business suit wearing, Republican spouting idiotic lines that audiences were eating up. I'm sure to the sheer delight of the cast.
Why wasn't Andy more like his father or Mallory? Well they're not the stars of the show. I mean shit, Andy's first moment on camera he comes walking through the kitchen door wearing a three-piece suit as a 4-year-old. 🙄🙄
Andy was only created because Meredith Baxter got pregnant. And she wasn't *that* old, in real life she was 36.
I was more stunned that in the last two seasons they started to incorporate heavy political banter between the family since Alex was so heavily Republican.
