Shocking new photos reveal chaotic storage of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago

I see a lot of newspaper articles as well in the mix. It seems like some of the boxes were just labelled with Secret (well, the Confidential one anyway) even though it didn't contain any.

They already admitted to Fabricating evidence for pictures which they leaked to the media. So who do I trust? The person who had documents "who knows what they actually are" and never leaked any photos of them. Or the fbi who leaked and doctored those documents within hours of getting them?

reply

And don't forget that the FBI and DOJ coordinated with NARA to send a pallet of unsolicited classified documents to Trump and then charge him for it since those docs became illegal in transit.

reply

Also he was President, so it's all fucking stupid and bullshit...MAGA.

reply

Hard to trust the guy that said he returned all documents when they found more and more while being uncooperative after the first ask. You need to remember what he said before that this was his right to take it because he declassified it himself without anyone else knowing or going through the archivist (Presidential Records thingy).

reply

Under the PRA, he has the rights to those documents.

reply

The archivist is not in the constitution and sure as hell is not above the president.

reply

So the President doesn't have to follow any rules, is that your point?

reply

Which rules? The rules they fabricate just for Trump?

reply

An erratum on my part. I'm specifically speaking about procedure. All the more reason to hold the trial so we can know for sure what SCOTUS can rule on.

In all cases, however, a formal procedure is required so governmental agencies know with certainty what has been declassified and decisions memorialized. A federal appeals court in a 2020 Freedom of Information Act case, New York Times v. CIA, underscored that point: “Declassification cannot occur unless designated officials follow specified procedures,” the court said.

As the new ABA Legal Fact Check notes, the extent of a president’s legal authority to unilaterally declassify materials — without following formal procedures — has yet to be challenged in court.
