Natural Born Killers (1994)

What do we all think of this notorious, controversial and highly disturbing movie, directed by Oliver Stone, and also, what do we think about its message including the glorification of violence in the media?

Also, as far as works of Oliver Stone are concerned, where do we rank this?

And how old were you when you first saw it? And if it was in the 90s, what reaction would you say it got out of you?

And how do we feel about it in regards to it being compared to other disturbing movies, ones that came out both before and after it, including Salo (1975), Cannibal Holocaust (1980) (which ALSO said a lot about violence and the media), as well as later works, like Irreversible (2002), A Serbian Film (2010) and others, including of course several Michael Haneke's films like "Funny Games" (1997) and the Belgian movie "Man Bites Dog" (1992), both of which dealt with related subjects?

Amazingly enough, both O.J. Simpson AND Lorena Bobbitt make cameo appearances in it, on news clips featured at one point.

Had this movie been made today, there probably would've been cameos by Osama bin Laden and whatnot...

I enjoyed it immensely
The Starkweather/Bonnie and Clyde elements, production values, script and acting were all top shelf
Yes the media glorifies violence and we eat it up...how many times have i walked into the office and heard, 'Did you hear about that lunatic in _____?'

His best was Platoon
It was brilliant
His Scarface script turned into greatness later on

I was around 20
I love violent movies ( i have no idea why, im considered quite polite and decent by the people who know me in real life,) so i totally dug it
Still do

Ive seen all the films you have cited except Man Bites Dog...im still on the hunt for that one
Natural Born Killers was not on the same level of depravity or misery and hopelessness as those movies
Irreversible in particular was ten times more heart breaking and disturbing

Fine work TheMan!

reply

Apparently Quentin Tarantino himself wrote it.

reply

Hes credited with 'story' whatever the hell that means
Stone and a couple of others wrote the screenplay
We really seem to be tying threads together this evening👍

Man Bites Dog is worth the watch.

One of my least favorite Stone movies.

A lot because it had been done before with Man Bites Dog.
Stone just put his own spin on it.

you like lighthearted movies

It was way too violent for me.

My 2 most favourite Oliver Stone movies are "J.F.K." (1991) and "Salvador" (1986), both of which I consider masterpieces and I guess I might as well call "Salvador" with James Woods my favourite film of his. 10/10 - oh definitely.

JFK is fiction.

Perhaps (then again, do we know for sure all facts surrounding that notorious assassination?), but so are most films anyway based on true stories or even history, but its still an amazing film, technically and performances-wise overall to be among Stone's top 3 best works.
