Most heroic fictional character?

First few that came to my mind are:

Lloyd Irving of Tales of Symphonia
Christopher Johnson of District 9

There could be others who are more heroic, but I can't think of 'em yet.

Samwise Gamgee
He was just a landscaper but he hoofed it all the way to Mordor to help Frodo...
Pretty awesome friend!
And Frodo was sort of wimpy and needed to be dragged and carried the last few miles

Sam was the real hero of that great story...he got a hot Hobbit babe at the end too!

He was the only person who had the ring in his possession and voluntarily handed it over. Gandalf would not even touch it, because he knew it would corrupt him. Frodo got attached and would not have thrown it in, if Gollum had not grabbed it. Only Sam Gamgee had the strength of character to hold the ring and voluntarily relinquish it.

Exactly
He also butchered a few Orcs and may have fatally wounded the gigantic Spider Shelob
Sammy was no joke!
