Your Favorite 'Cheesy' Movie...

You know those movies that are so overblown and silly, with big casts and millions in special effects that you admit are very stupid...but you can't turn off...

One of my favorite stupid/great movies is The Rock (96)

That cast, those explosions, Navy SEALS invading Alcatraz and dialogue that The Bard himself couldn't write...
'I love pressure, I eat it for breakfast'

I can't turn this crap off when it comes on!

What's your favorite cheesy movie?

reply

Speed
Terminator 3

reply

Do they have to be big budget action flicks? Because my most favorite cheesy movie of all time is Bachelor Party.

reply

No, any silly film you love counts atomicgirl (great handle btw:)

Bachelor Party was really funny and the 'R' rating gets extra credit from me... the big studios don't have the guts to make very many sleazy, funny, R rated comedies anymore, which is a damn shame

reply

The studio can't really make movies like that anymore because HIV/AIDs and all of these social problems pretty much ruined the sex farce. I guess that's why I'm so fond of Bachelor Party. That was the period right before the you-know-what hit the fan and sex stopped being fun and harmless.

reply

A damn shame really...we seem to have lost our humor in America
I grew up in the age of AIDS, me and the boys were well aware of the risks...We all turned out fine (several of the boys are overweight and bald now but whatever)
All of those girls are just fine too though many of them look 'matronly' and quite heavy now:/

Teen Sex-100
AIDS-0

I love the raunchy 80s sex comedies...they seemed so outrageous then but are quite quaint now

reply

The Poseidon Adventure
Airport
Dantes Peak and Volcano
The Stepford Wives
13 Going on 30
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Get Him to the Greek
Strange Wilderness
Mr. And Mrs. Smith
The Rundown
Elf
The Watch
Billy Jack
Showtime
Stepbrothers
Hot Tub Time Machine
Red Dawn
Duets
Deep Impact and Armagedon
hundreds of cheesy comedies.

reply

Fine list!
I've seen most, Red Dawn is a personal favorite

reply

Wolverines!!!

reply

Both Red Dawns, Laura? I would agree with that.

reply

I've only seen the original.

reply

Speed is pretty silly and doesn't make a lot of sense, but I consider it one of the best action movies ever.

reply

Agreed on all counts
A legendary cheesefest

reply

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

Amelie (2001)

reply

Python is legendary and deservedly so
I've never seen Amelie but I'll look it up
Thanks Quasimodo

reply

Your welcome. 'Amelie' is a French comedy starring Audrey Tautou as a kind of over-the-top kind hearted do gooder.

Dr Strangelove (1964) is another one.

Last night I watched movie called Getting Lucky about a high school nerd who finds a leprechaun trapped in a beer bottle. I first saw it back in the 90s on USA Up All Night and it was so bad and cheaply made that I couldn't help but enjoy it.

reply

I looked it up, turns out I never saw it
Sounds good though, I bet there were plenty of boobs and sexy girl butts and corny jokes...damn, I miss movies that were sleazy and fun

They make 'comedies' now but only if they are not offensive to a hundred different demographics and safe for all audiences...By which I mean comedy films are gasping the last breath:/

reply

Independence Day.

reply

YES!
Some of our lovely posters may have missed my point (and perhaps I fouled it all up by explaining it very badly lol) but Independence Day is a fine example
Gotta love a dopey movie they spent $100 million to make that winds up being lots of fun!

reply

Not because they're overblown with big casts and millions in special effects, but for other reasons, Jurassic Park (all of them), The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

I don't care, I enjoy them anyway!
