Does anyone get Trick or Treaters in their neighborhood?

I only get a very few every year.

reply

Live in the country, so very few. Mostly just people who want to show their costumes to me. (relatives). I have to go out trick or treating with my little niece this Halloween so its a good thing I don't or I'd miss them.

reply

Not a big thing in Australia although the shops get on board to try and push sales of costumes and sweets. I find it to be very American and don't encourage the few kids who knock hoping to bum free confectionery off me.

reply

hahaha, classic. You "don't encourage" them? What, by saying "get off my f***ing property you little c***s" or something? I have a very funny mental image of it.

Yeah, I sometimes wish Halloween was a bigger deal here in Australia, as far as holidays go it's at least a fun one. You get to dress up, scare the shit out of people and consume bucket loads of sugar. I doubt I'll have any trick or treaters tonight but have a few chocolates ready just in case.

Happy Halloween all!

Usually just don't answer the door or say no thank you. The neighbourhood has a system where houses that are participating put up balloons or some other sort of signal so trick or treater's know which houses to approach.

I do like the way women look in some of the costumes.

There you go - that's the spirit!

reply

It's not actually a 'holiday' in Australia, is it?

reply

No it's not. So?

reply

No biggie. Just that you said, "At least as far as holidays go it's a fun one".

reply

last year we had over 20 but the weather is suppose to be miserable on thursday.

reply

Not very many.

reply

Yes :). What surprised me was getting all ages of Trick-or-Treaters. I don't just get kids, I also get teenagers, grown-ups, and sometimes parents with little bitty toddlers or babies. The most common group I get are huge hordes of school-age kids, who [intelligently] travel in groups for safety reasons.

reply

That sounds great.

A lot of the kids in my neighbourhood are getting older. Last year I only had 35, down from 50 the year before which was down from 100 when I moved in. Growing up my mom would get about 300 kids which I thought was crazy. My cousin lives on the main boulevard of a new suburban community and she had 1500 kids last year. Another friend who lives 2 blocks away from my cousin got 115 kids. I miss getting a lot of kids.

reply

That’s quite a bit. Do you live in a big city?

reply

Not a huge city. We have about 1 million here.

reply

For me that’s pretty big :-)

reply

We are lucky to get 25-30 on a busy year. The neighborhood has gotten older and the families are smaller.

reply

Around 300 kids. My neighbourhood goes all out; graveyards, pumpkin horror dioramas, smoke machines, scary music and lightning effects. There's only one street into the area so kids are dropped off here from other parts of the city.

reply

Awesome

reply

Yeah, the candy gets expensive but I love it.

reply

Happy kids (of any age, really) are sure to lift your spirits.

reply

I used to get quite a few the first couple of years in my house, but the birdshot has been discouraging them since then. Nobody ain't never gettin' none of my candy!

reply

This was my first Trick or Treat here in my new home. I live on a side street but still got between 40 and 50 kids. On the end street just up from my house they probably got over 300 kids.
