When it comes to art, I am of the opinion that whatever blows your hair back is good art.

I find Basquiat's paintings exhilarating and disturbing at the same time.

In hindsight his works have been understood much more deeply than I can explain. Enjoy this slideshow and feel free to comment on what you think of his work.

I'm not familiar with the artist, but I like it. It's not pretty, but more interesting. I definitely want to know what he was thinking when he painted some of those.

He was living hand to mouth in NYC at a time when the city was in decay for one. He also was hit by a car at age 7 and spent a couple of months in the hospital. During that time he read anatomy books. It had a profound influence.
