Do you enjoy camping?

I don't mind if it is SHORT TERM and there is REAL toilets (no holes in ground or a toilet onto of a deep hole in the ground, I can't go.)

With that out of the way, I like camping!

You gotta get the balance right between not too many people and not too few (you don't want to feel isolated in case of serial killers.)

Safety Tip... don't camp under a big tree with big branches. They can fall and kill you (I've heard of this happening).

No, one of the few things that I have absolutely no interest in, whatsoever.

reply

Yes I do. Back when my son was growing up we did about 8 years of "See America" by camping. We did it with a pop-up and stayed in campgrounds, so not primitive by any means. One time we camped at the foot of Devils Tower with a full moon and that was spectacular - something we couldn't have seen staying in a motel.

reply

That sounds like good memories. 👍

reply

Was it an VW pop-up? I wish they still made those. I was reading about a Mercedes pop-up the other day but we're talking 70k give or take.

reply

No, we had pop-up trailers that were pulled by our van. During the years we camped we had several different models - all basically the same, some with more bells and whistles than others. We traveled with electric blankets and a small color TV - not really roughing it - LOL.

reply

Being on the open road like that is awesome nonetheless. Those were great times I'm sure. The Devil's Tower! On the way there you should have started carving the tower out of your mashed potatoes and acting strange, lol.

Ha! I thought of Close Encounters too😬

I mean come on!!!!!!!! This is a movie forum!!!!!!!!

I had an encounter with Dreyfuss when I was 15. My aunt was working for a Hollywood writer and she had an office at Paramount Studios at the time. He was such a cool fucking guy. He was working on a script and just ran jokes past me and my aunt. Hilarious stuff. He had just done "Let It Ride" so I regret not asking him about Jennifer Tilly. Maybe I could have gotten a meet and greet! Them titties!!!

reply

Sounds like a fun opportunity for a young movie fan

reply

Fun yet filled with regret! I could have handled it so much better and had more fun. I was just a kid though.

reply

I could have started the convo with "Stop playing with yourself, Hooper!"

It was a cool spot to visit! Funny story about camping - as I previously mentioned, we traveled all over the US and to some remote locations. We had a propane fridge in the camper so we could keep meat cold w/o having to bother with ice. We also hooked up a small grill to the tanks and many times we would pull off in a secluded area and grill burgers or hot dogs for lunch because there just wasn't anything else around. According to my son who was 15 at the time, that was THE MOST EMBARRASSING THING HE HAD EVER DONE IN HIS LIFE, because normal people went to a restaurant for lunch. He moaned and groaned until one night we were in the panhandle of Texas and we told him we would go to Mc Donald's for dinner. When we checked in we asked where the nearest MD's was and were told, "Oh, about 60 miles east of here." He got another burger from our grill that night.

I do enjoy camping and I do both. We have a pull behind nice camper with all the bells and whistles we use for vacations. We use it mostly when staying at different state parks. I’ve also primitive camped in many different places where you hike in with just what’s on your back. One that I haven’t done in a couple of years, but I used to love, is camping on an island in the marshes in the edge of the gulf. For years, on those trips, we would stay for several days and only bring what you can carry in on a small boat and hunt and fish for dinner.

reply

No, I don't. It really frightens me to be cold and alone in the wild at night. I put myself in such situation once and luckily found my way back to civilization before mid-night. So, I absolutely understand what you meant by ”don't want to feel isolated“,regardless the odds of serial killers wandering around.

reply

I grew up in the woods and learned to love cities.

I used to go hiking for hours and always carried a weapon. Suddenly you'd find yourself in the middle of nowhere and bump into some dude. He could be nice or a total crazy person, you have no idea and it's just you and him. With that being said, there is no way in hell I'm sleep outside unless I'm hidden, and that's goes triple if there's a female with me.

Plus, I'd bump into beers, giant buck, and even a titanic moose one time. At the time, I didn't know moose would kill you and we were just looking at each other.

reply

I bump into beers all the time when camping.

reply

I accidentally stepped on a big snake while exploring in the dark.

reply

Saw a funny cartoon meme that summed this up. Two hikers meet on a trail, say hi and part ways. Then they both have the same thought bubbles over their head. "I could have killed that guy." lol

reply

No. I don't care to live the way people did in the 19th Century. No thanks.

I used to love going camping. They call it "dispersed" camping. Me and a friend or gf would pack up the car with enough stuff for 3 days 2 nights and find an out of the way spot. Just being outside, cooking food over a fire, drinking coffee on a cool morning waiting for the the sun to warm things up. Find a hiking trail nearby. Very refreshing.

reply

You bet I do. Its great to get away. During the day hike, bike, fish, explore, etc. Cook over hot coals from camp fire. At night sit around camp fire telling ghost stories (or any stories) while drinking beer. In the morning making breakfast over the still hot coals.

I've outgrown primitive camping. I can't do that tent and sleeping on the ground business no more. Tow a little camper now. You're like to find me in it as as home these days.
