Why Don't You Watch MORE Older Movies?

On every movie board, I keep seeing these awful scores (their score AND IMDB scores)… Why not check out movies from the 1930-70s, and not just the popular stuff. Check out movies from ALL over the world. If you see a movie you love, watch everything by that director.

If you compare 1980-2020 to 1939-1979, it's NO contest.. Even young people know this, and they barely understand the historical references, but it still tickles their soul.

I watch old movies every chance I get.

I like your suggestion to dig into the back catalogue of directors you discover, I do this all the time. That said, it's not necessarily just with directors in the 30s-70s period. I appreciate that's your favourite period, but whether or not the majority of films were "better" then is surely a matter of opinion. I have seen multiple stinkers from the golden age.

I ask random people in real life and online their favorite movies.. Most seem to be much older than them, despite their age. It's pretty amazing that movies 80 years old still move people. I grew up in the 80s, and most of those movies never seem to gain traction again the modern day.

I'd compare it to music, too. For example, I see a bunch of 18-yr olds as concerts from bands starting in the 60/70s, but you would never see those same young people at a Cars (or other 80s) concert.

The oldest movie that I count among my all-time favorites is Rocky, which is almost two years younger than me.

I don't like the way they talk in old movies. It really bothers me a lot.

And they talked in an extremely fast-firing dialogs. So theatrical. So... fake.

Movies from the 70s are fine, but older than that I'm not fond of.

Please don't even compare 1980-2000 with 2000-2020.

I watch old movies from the 30's to early 60's mostly. Some I buy second hand from Amazon and then re-sell them and others I watch on a Russian website which is similar to YouTube, but they don't care that they upload whole films there, so there are hundreds of old Hollywood movies to be found thanks to the Ruskies!

I enjoy watching many old movies for the first time more so than watching new TV shows on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

I watch very few newer movies. I don't like the way they look (mostly shot on video instead of film, and bad color timing), and I don't like the "woke" horseshit that has infested them.

I've yet to see a movie from the 1960s or earlier that I cared much for, except for The Wizard of Oz (1939) and 12 Angry Men (1957).

The 1970s is when movies started to get good in my opinion, mainly because the acting moved away from a hammy theatrical style toward a more realistic style. Also, the special effects got a lot better; Star Wars (1977) for example. The "look" of 1970s film was great too.

Most of my favorite movies are from the 1980s, and LOL at you putting the 1980s into the inferior category. Your two categories are far too broad anyway. A movie from 1939 is nothing like one from 1979, just as one from 1980 is nothing like one from 2020. A single decade is the broadest category that actually makes sense.

Grapes of Wrath
Casablanca
Key Largo
The Thin Man series
All of James Dean movies
All of Alfred Hitchcock movies
to name a few

Those first 4 are great.. I like a few Hitchcock, too.. Especially "Dial M For Murder" (mostly for Ray Milland)

Probably ~95% of my viewing is of stuff made between 1900 and 1990.
