The NeverEnding Story (1984)

reply

That's not a terrible movie by any means. The sequel is terrible, but the original one is a quite nice.

reply

There are some cringeworthy parts, but I have to disagree it's terrible.

The Pirate Movie (1982)

Baby's Day Out.

reply

The first movie I watch in theater by myself.

reply

Good choice :-)

I know I'll probably get slammed for this, but I liked Song of the South - unfortunately it offends some people, (and I do understand why), but I loved the story of Br'er Rabbit and the Tar Baby, the Uncle Remus stories, and well, Zippety Doo Dah.

reply

I liked it too. I didn't really understand any of the politics behind it, it was just a happy old man telling stories. I really would love to see it again to see what I didn't understand and how racist it really is.

reply

It can still be viewed on line. I watched it a few years ago - I still enjoyed it despite all of the negativity it receives from some people.

reply

I have not been able to find a stream of it anywhere anytime I've looked for it.

on youtube

reply

Perhaps not in Canada. Just looked and not there. :)

reply

I've never heard of that. What's offensive about it?

reply

Post Civil War in the South. Former slaves still attached to a white family and appear to be happy. Uncle Remus is a guy who sings and tells stories to the children. A lot of people have a problem with that and consider it to be black stereotyping. I can see why some people are bothered with it but then they just shouldn't watch it. Disney pulled it years ago because of the negative press and I imagine only people of my generation are familiar with the movie. It was released in the late 1940's and my mother took me to see it when I was a little girl in the early 1950's.

reply

That doesn't sound too bad. Just because they were former slaves, that doesn't mean they can't get along with a white family. Sounds like people are reaching with this.

reply

It's a happy movie. But the objection is that the black people shouldn't be happy and it doesn't really show how oppressed they still were. Sigh, it's a children's movie not a documentary.
