Do people [not so] secretly hate their children?

With all the currently homeschooling and/or working from home, I've seen a flood of memes, jokes and comedic scenes about stressed out parents being overwhelmed to the point of resenting their kids. The long-running jokes about kids involve two themes: "My kid says the darnedest things." or "The kids are driving me crazy and I cannot stand them anymore."

Being a parent is a preventable situation, so why do you have them if you don't appreciate them?
When the time comes for the kid to leave for college, these same parents cry their eyes out. It's so confusing.

NOT ME...MY DAUGHTER MIGHT BE THE ONLY PERSON I DONT DISLIKE TO ANY DEGREE...OF COURSE I RAISED HER FROM BIRTH TILL NOW...SO THIS NEW SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES IS NORMAL FOR ME,IM USED TO HAVING HER AROUND 24/7.

I don't think they hate their kids. But I don't doubt they hate the situation they find themselves in. Just imagine having to work from home, but at the same time you're supposed to supervise your children's distance learning, along with everything else such as mealtimes and keeping them occupied. It HAS to be stressful. My daughter runs her own in-home daycare and she has families with parents who are working from home, yet they still have their kids in daycare. It's the only way the parents can get their work done.

It's called the Humblebrag.

Parents are usually too proud of their children. They would make people cringe if they're being honest about their oh so precious kids. Have you ever heard dog people when they're talking about their dogs? That how their absolutely mad Pitbulls are sooo cute and would never hurt a fly? That's how parents really think about their children. Times 100.

Therefore, they pretend to complain about their kids but only in order to brag about them. The humblebrag.

People who have dogs are pet owners, not "parents."

They consider themselves the dog's parents.

In their own minds, maybe. It's this type of unrealistic thinking that leads to attacks by pit bulls and other dogs. Because these people anthropomorphize their pets, they think they can reason with an animal which operates purely on instinct.
A pit bull attacks because something triggers this reaction. Maybe it's some sort of territorial instinct... I don't know. Whatever it is, you can't reason with it.

Anyway, I was just making a comparison. That's how parents think of their (human) children. Mob boss' moms are like that. Even when they know their kids kill and maim people, they're still the best kids ever. That's just what parents do.

Some parents are doing fine, but there are many who treat school like some kind of glorified daycare, and don't actually care what their kids are doing, so long as they aren't out on the street, breaking the law. Now that they've had to take up the role of being teacher as well as parent, it's making them realize just how little they have been involved in their kids' lives, and how much work those teachers have to deal with.

Even sadder, many families have figured out during this quarantine why they were always avoiding each other all the time in the first place. Other families are doing just fine.
