Bump

reply

The 3 best from your list. Palmetto, The Last Seduction and Sin City.

reply

Palmetto is really hard to get on dvd region 2. Most people never heard of it.

reply

I have the 3 I listed all on DVD.

reply

What region? Where you from?

reply

Ohio

reply

PALMETTO IS PRETTY COMMON IN AMERICA...I GOT MY COPY FOR A BUCK AT A THRIFT STORE.

reply

A lot of great films in there. Pulp Fiction, The Big Sleep, Hard Eight, Apocalypse Now, Maltese Falcon, American Beauty and Scarface are on all my list of favourites too. I didn't like Inherent Vice and was underwhelmed by Beach Bum. I think The Shawshank Redemption is good, but not great. I really liked Joker and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Natural Born Killers and American Psycho are great too. I'm not a big fan of Heat and find it to be overrated. Same with Good Will Hunting.

reply

Anyone that has Badlands and Pulp Fiction on their list gets a thumbs up from me.

reply

you like crime movies which is fine by me.

reply

Maybe deep down I want to be a criminal.

reply

you had me at beach bum.

lots of fun, quirky choices. some i like & love, some that i don't, but it's full of not-obvious things, and i always appreciate that.

reply

in particular, i'll give you a shout-out for:

sorcerer
i saw the devil
red rock west
brawl in fucking cell block 99, which is so bloody great.
the long goodbye
down by law
buffalo 66

not your typical top 100 fare. a-ok in my books, fwtw.

reply

Brawl in cell block 99 is only 3 years old but I have seen it 10+ times. Awesome movie.

I was disappointed with the director's next movie though. Dragged across concrete.

reply

i still enjoyed it a lot. it was absurdly long, far far far too long, but i still found plenty to like in it. i've honestly enjoyed every film he's made so far (i actually like bone tomahawk the most), and can't wait to see what he does next. he has this reactionary tone & adolescent metal fantasy style that i just cannot get enough of.

i even enjoyed the puppet master film he scripted.

reply

I need to go back and revisit Sorcerer. I’ve seen it several times over the years and it’s appeal that so many enjoy just hasn’t hit me yet.

reply

That's a remake of "The wages of Fear" (1953) aka "Le salaire de la peur" which was directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot who also directed "Diabolique" the movie that supposedly inspired Hitchcock to make Psycho. This is only something that I read once, I don't know if their is any truth to it.

reply

Do you prefer the original or the remake?

reply

I haven't seen "Sorcerer" but, honestly, Wages of Fear is boring. All they do is drive trucks and because they're afraid of exploding they drive the trucks slooooooooooowly. If you didn't like the remake the original would probably be just as boring. But it is ranked #206 on the top 250, so make of that what you will. You SHOULD however watch Diabolique, that is a good movie.

reply

I’m fine with a slow paced film, but something about Sorcerer just never clicked with me. I’ll look into Diabolique also.

reply

The first 15 minutes when the characters are introduced is not that great. After that it's awesome.

reply

that's called drama and suspense

reply

The majority of my favorites are from the 70’s so I appreciate the slow burn.

reply

the wages of fear is much better. my favorite french made movie.

reply

I’ll try to watch it soon.

reply

Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Alien
Se7en
Speed
The Usual Suspects

👍

reply

I liked 21 of them

reply

10 of them are on my top 100 list. 👍👍

We should all do a topic like this.
