I'm getting tired of people complaining about movies because they think there's a political agenda.

Somebody shooting a home intruder doesn't mean the movie is trying to say they are pro-gun. A disaster movie where people try to survive the elements of weather doesn't mean the film is trying to claim it's a global warming film.

I mean, sure there are some obvious example, but so many people are looking for a political complaint in movies like Joker and Inception. Most movies are just trying to entertain you, they're not trying to shove a message down your throat.

Not me, I like hearing people's complaints. They're pretty entertaining.

That's just what happens on the internet today. This 'very online' culture of over-analysing things with meticulously detailed film essays has pushed everyone into thinking something deep is there when it really isn't. Plenty of filmmakers have bounced back saying their films are up for interpretation and that certain elements were unintentional.

The Matrix is a recent example, where because the Wachowski's both came out as transgender ten years after the movie was released, there is now apparently a non-binary subtext where Neo is actually a woman trapped in a man's body coming to terms with the fact the world is transphobic because The Agent dead names him (Mr. Anderson instead of Neo). Of course people can have their theories but The Matrix is probably the most discussed films ever, what with all its philosophy it's welcome and expected. But the latest trans allegory is simply more 'fan fiction' when the message is clearly Plato's allegory of the cave.

Pray for society.

It's a very bad idea for a film to try to push politics.

Dwayne Johnson used to be known as The Rock.

Joker is one of the more interesting political type films as I don't think it conveys what they intend it to.

As far as silly agenda pushing in non agenda films, I still love the Muslim guy who says that Star Wars is all about Islam.

reply

Which Islam guy? I want to know so I could laugh at him.

reply

It's an old story but if you type in Star Wars Islam connection there are plenty of hits, other Muslim's saying the same thing. Personally I think they just want to be able to enjoy the films in a Halal kind of way.

reply

That's very moving.

I'm in tears.
