Hologram and see-through computer monitors

Is a hollywood cliche for the future.

One that is impractical and won't happen.

See-through monitors are actually quite useful and already common in cars today. They project the speed and maps onto the windshield so drivers can take a glance on them while driving without being distracted.

Cool tech, realistic implementation.

That's a little different than what I was getting at.

reply

Well it's an implementation of see-through display.

You want it like in Minority Report? Transparent computer monitors? Those things don't even make any sense. Not even IN THE MOVIE itself. They don't have any purpose, even worse than regular monitor because then you cannot read very clearly.

In fact, OLED screens are transparent. Many smartphones use OLED screens. They just put a black plastic behind it so we can see what's actually in the screen instead of the phone's electronics and battery and stuffs.

I get what actionkaman is saying about the technology being useful in cars and stuff.

But look at offices - if we see through our monitors - all we’ll see is the wall of the cubicles 1ft behind it.

I can see something like “google glass” making a comeback - and those see-through monitors being projected into AR from the glasses.

impractical how?

if you mean like stupid idea that would make it 10 times harder to see the information then , yes i agree
