James Coburn or Gene Hackman
Which do you think had the better career?
shareGene therapy Hackman
shareHackman
shareHackman! Had a much longer and more varied career, and kept doing great work for decades.
Coburn was a cool actor but really kind of one-note, where Hackman could do anything you could ask an actor to do. Still, Coburn's one note was that super-cool note, so I like him anyway.
Well put, same for me
Hackman is running away with this one!
Hackman really was a terrific actor, he could do leading roles, scene-stealing supporting roles, comedy, drama, suspense, pathos, villainy, authority figures, generals, nerds, etc., anything you could ask an actor to do. He must have made hundreds of films (I'm not going to count them), and if he ever did a bad job in one, I haven't seen it.
Coburn was damn good at what he did, and anyone who appeared in both "The Magnificent Seven" and "The Great Escape" has an impressive filmography, and he certainly had a long career, but he was never at Hackman's level and no shame in that. Few are.
Agreed
According to IMDB Hackman acted in about 100 projects, Coburn in 175
Coburn was certainly no slouch
I like them both!
shareAs pretty-much everybody has already said, Hackman by a large distance.
I do like Coburn, but its not a contest.
I LOVE BOTH BUT HACKMAN BY FAR HAD THE BETTER CAREER...BOTH ARE DYNAMIC PERFORMERS...BUT HACKMAN CHOSE BETTER PROJECTS.
sharewhen i was young, people used to ask me if james coburn was my father.
but yeah, hackman had a much larger impact & range. it might be partly attributable to his selectivity. he stretched himself.
Gene Hackman, I always loved his performances and miss seeing him in movies.
