I like Coburn, but when you measure his best performances/films against Hackman's career, it's no contest. Hackman by a country mile.

Gene Hackman. He owned every character he's played and chosen better scripts. And he played Royal Tenenbaum, my favorite comically dysfunctional patriarch.
