Why do most movies suck?

I haven't seen an excellent film since 2019. Most of the stuff available now are either average or garbage. I know C-19 changed things. I just can't imagine why these world events are stunting creative minds.

I don't know. I'm just seeing if it allows me to post yet, because ever since I created my account it said I'm "breaking moviechat's code of conduct" or something.

Oh sweet. I can post on here now!

I think it depends on how old you are. Once you get to a certain age you feel like you've seen it all. There's nothing new, or original. If you're younger, I would think there would be lots to see from the 70s-90s.

1.
The movie industry started focusing on SFX films with superheroes, action heroes, sci-fi and thrillers to get people in the theaters instead of downloading at home.

2.
Studios used to find a great script BEFORE making a movie. Now, they plan a movie before a script is written.

3.
Scriptwriters used to be seasoned professionals. Now, they allow directors to write them. Writing is an entirely different skill and very few can do both well.

4.
Younger generation just lacks talent? Today's music is bad, too.

5.
Too much control by large studios which are less likely to experiment with creativity. They prefer sequels and remakes which are proven money makers. Smaller studios can't get distribution and the industry is favoring big budget SFX now, anyway.

Have to agree. The countless hours spent scrolling thru Netflix and other streaming menus. Mediocrity after mediocrity. Time wasting sophomoric efforts. It is rare to find the hidden gem.

Final Score (2021)

Personally I prefer older films because newer films seem to go over the top in action where they just start lacking realism to me.

For me, 2007 was the last good year for films. The following year was the writer’s guild strike and it seemed to suck out all the talent from Hollywood. Also the whole industry switched to digital, and then streaming came a long a few years later and killed it entirely.
