What do you think Jesus was like?

Historians have said he was a good preacher and was charismatic. He'd probably be someone I'd be willing to listen to (like someone today giving a good TED talk) and I'd agree with some of his ideas.

reply

I always imagined his speeches probably sounded a lot like Mahatma Gandhis.

reply

Seeing as there is no historical figure called Jesus Christ in all of written history other than in a fiction book, he most certainly didn't exist and wasn't like anything.

reply

It's a good deal more likely that a historical figure that we know as Jesus did exist than that he didn't. Unless you think St Paul didn't exist either and was invented as well as part of a conspiracy to create Christianity out of nothing.

reply

You don't need a conspiracy to invent a religion, that's how all religions were invented.

reply

What, out of nothing ?

reply

SO I assume you believe Zeus and Hera really walked the earth and that is why the ancient Greeks believed in them.

reply

Ah a slippery eel !

You didn't answer my question about St Paul slippery eel.

reply

I know nothing about Christianity, so I guess he was fake too eel.

reply

Then if St Paul didn't exist someone invented a fictional historical character who was the one to get Christianity off the ground and running. What would you call that but evidence of a conspiracy to start a religion ?

reply

I call that who bleeding cares.. People like religions even if there is no evidence to support their claims.

reply

No way of knowing

If he was actually a person walking around calling himself the son of God then there's a possibility that he was either mentally ill or had narcissistic delusions or was a con man. If that's the case then he might have been a troublemaker like most other cult leaders

If he was even close to the philosophical wiseman that Christianity portrays him as then he would've obviously been pretty cool

I lean toward the former, only because most modern "prophets" like Joseph Smith and L. Ron Hubbard are total boners. I think it's more likely that early Christianity just had really great missionaries

Not that I have a problem with that. I think the masses need some figure to rally around in order to give them purpose and moral direction. Jesus is as good a figure as any

reply

Matthew 7:19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

WTF

reply

And who decides which "trees" have borne good fruit and which have not ?

reply

Basically, it is equivalent to "if something does not benefit me, then I'll destroy it". So, it doesn't matter who decides, it's wrong to the core.

reply

Sounds like America!

reply

The way I see the Bible (Old/New) is more about the politics of their time. I see the perceived Christ as a leaver of change in his time. I may be wrong, but what a good question to ask OP.
