Actors you thought were going to be "a thing" but you were completely wrong about.

Michelle Ryan. She was in the short lived "Bionic Woman" show. She was a decent actress and was hotter than Satan falling into a volcano while eating a jalapeño pepper. I thought she would be big just on her looks alone but she never did anything big afterwards.

Aidan Turner. He was sort of big in Ireland. I saw him in "Being Human" but he left the show to do "The Hobbit" movies. He even had the movie star look that the ladies would love. I thought he would be a huge star but I was completely wrong.

Dillon Freasier. He was the kid in "There Will be Blood". He held his own opposite Daniel Day-Lewis. How was I supposed to know he was going to be in nothing afterward? Literally not a single thing.

Paul Walter Hauser. He was brilliant in "Richard Jewell". I thought he was going to get an Oscar nomination. He didn't and has been in mediocre movies since.

I thought Lauren Ambrose was going to be a lot bigger after Six Feet Under. I think it was her choice to retreat from the limelight, as it has been for a lot of actresses I assumed would be bigger, such as Lacey Chabert. But then again, I think a lot of actresses get blacklisted - like Eliza Dushku, who I honestly thought would be huge.

reply

Lauren Ambrose should be bigger.

Ditto on Lacey Chabert. I thought she was hot as hell in Mean Girls. Really thought she'd go on to be a major name.

reply

Party of Five was a big deal, then Mean Girls was a smash hit. So she definitely should be bigger - but I think it was her choice to do Hallmark movies and move out of the limelight (sad about it though).

Taylor Kitsch

He's still working steadily but I really thought that he'd be a huge star.

reply

John Carter (which wasn't as bad as people say) killed his career.

reply

Battleship didn't help either, it came out the same year. But I really like him as an actor.

reply

Eh, John Carter is as bad as people say. I couldn't even finish it. Too random and too boring.

reply

I mean, I don't like it, but I don't think it's one of the worst blockbusters of all time.

Aiden Turner is still a BIG Effin' DEAL! He was awesome in Poldark for five seasons. It wasn't a movie role but it was a pretty big tv show and worth watching. He's on the list of contenders for James Bond and I think he'd be good. Pierce Brosnan is Irish and he was a decent Bond.

My pick would be Emma Griffiths Malin. She blew me away in The Forsyte Saga (2002) and the Death on the Nile episode of Poirot (2004). She's 41 now so she might have taken a break to have kids or didn't want to hop on a casting couch. She is quite glamorous but I also thought she was a good actress.

reply

I'm not saying that Aidan Turner has a bad career. I just thought he was going to be a household name.

Peter Ostrum as Charlie Bucket

Alexis Bledel

reply

Oh yeah, the Gilmore Girls girl!

reply

Haley Joel Osment. I fully expected him to have the male equivalent of Jodi Foster's career.

reply

I thought he would start getting a lot of interesting indie work after growing that big beard, but it hasn't kicked in yet.

reply

Rutger Hauer and Robert Patrick. I know they both kept working, but after Blade Runner and T2 I thought they were going to be bigger than they were.

reply

I remember Patrick got the X Files late in the series run. He and the Scully replacement didn't last long. They didn't have nearly as much chemistry, but I wouldn't blame them too much. Those were big shoes to fill and the writers never really could find a way to make their relationship very interesting.

reply

Yes, I remember that. They switched it up didn't they, Scully became more of a believer and Agent John Doggett was the sceptic. And then of course Scully was sidelined and another female agent came in. As you say, it didn't really work.

Hayden Christensen

reply

Was it after you saw Star Wars or did you just assume he would be big because he got cast in a huge franchise?

reply

after star wars.

reply

There is one movie I liked him in called Shattered Glass where he plays a journalist who just lies about everything.

reply

he was good in that movie.
