Everybody should stop saying these things:

"I could care less"
"It's besides the point"
"Nucular"

Any others?

I don't like the sound of "presumably." I prefer "presumedly" but even here my spell check rejects the latter.
I figure if the past tense of Presume is presumed, then presumedly would follow.
But I haven't looked into why it's pronounced and spelled differently yet.

reply

That's a tough one. I would say presumably, as in something that is presumable being addressed.

reply

Interesting. I've never thought of using "presumable" in a construction of a sentence, but I guess one could.

"I got them ALL cut!" - reply when someone remarks "You got a haircut!"

reply

I haven't heard that, but now I want to use it just as an annoying dad joke.

reply

We had a comedic character down here that used to say "I got my hairs cut/Getting my hairs waxed".

per se

it's Bruce Skett tah

The word "moot" is almost never used correctly. That one makes me nuts.

I wish there was a book of Joey-isms. He had life all figured out.

Stop asking your kids "Who do you think you are?" There's literally no acceptable response to that question:

* silence is met with "Answer me when I ask you a question!"
* your kid's name is met with "So you're a wise ass now?"
* and "nobody" is unacceptable because what does it say about your kid's self worth?

reply

To be fair, that's a famously rhetorical question. No one expects their kid to answer that.

Dear Mr. Vernon. We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did was wrong, but we think you’re crazy to make us to write an essay telling you who we think we are. What do you care? You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms, the most convenient definitions. You see us as a Brain, an Athlete, a Basketcase, Princess, and a Criminal. Correct? That’s the way we saw each other at 7 o’clock this morning. We were brainwashed.

"Pound sand" is coming back into fashion - and I don't like it. We need to re-retire that saying before it becomes popular again.

reply

If you had to choose, would you tolerate 'pound sand' or 'kick rocks'?

reply

Kick rocks. Definitely.
