I watch A LOT of foreign language films. On the whole I think I prefer them, definitely over most of the mainstream US films released. Some good ones I’ve seen in recent months:
In The Fade (2017) - German revenge drama starring the amazing Diane Kruger
Monk (2017) - Dutch/Spanish comedy/drama about a family of neurotics on a road trip to visit a dying relative.
Only The Animals (2019) - French mystery with multiple characters whose stories are told separately until the converge at the end with the reveal. This one’s really clever and is like a mix of Fargo and Lantana, which is about the highest praise I can give in a comparison.
Son of Saul (2015) - devastating Hungarian film about a concentration camp inmate’s quest to properly bury a young Jewish boy. Not an easy watch, but incredible in every way.
Boys (2014) - Dutch coming of age story about a teenager who falls in love with one of his athletics team mates. Really sweet and heartwarming movie.
Psycokinesis (2018) - Crazy South Korean adventure film about a wayward father who develops superpowers and uses them to help his daughter save their shopping district from being shut down by evil developers. A cool twist on the superhero genre.
