“The Last”? Really? Why?

What is this bullshit with “the last”?

The Last Dragon. The Last Starfighter. The Last Unicorn. This is not an exhaustive list. You can easily augment it; but what is so special about “the last,” particularly when none of the titles I have named is truly about The Last anything?? The Dragon survives and moves on, gay as a picnic basket. The unicorn survives and can procreate, perhaps unlike Bruce Leeroy. The Last Starfighter? I’m not sure how many kids he’s going to father, but the technology to defeat Zar remains intact and demonstrated.

“The Last” is sheer hyperbole in a movie title. Sort of like “the biggest dick” in a porn title.

“The Last Airbender”? Really ? I want you to bend my Johnson, not my air, bitch.

Maybe they always meant "previous."

One of my favourite novels of all time is The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan, and the “Last” preface fits because the whole story is based around the title character believing he is the last of his kind. Magnificent book, thoroughly recommend it, would make a cracking film!

To be up honest though, Duncan did follow it up with two sequels, which I guess gives credence to your gripe!

I've actually searched for titles beginning with “the last” to try to find Post Apocalyptic movies.
It worked a found some good films.

I dont think they just chuck that prefix in as a willy waving exercise - the plot has to reflect it .

They should start using 'The Penultimate', or 'The Antepenultimate'
