Amish

Community healthcare, subsidies for housing, kids playing outside, off the grid but use solar panels...
These Amish are really on to something here. We should take a page out of their book and reevaluate our lives.

I don't know. When Sean Connery went there, he said that place was "a hit and Amish."

Google 'dark side of amish'

reply

Everyone has a dark side.

Especially that Pink Floyd album about the moon.

All that you touch and all that you see
All that you taste, all you feel
And all that you love and all that you hate
All you distrust, all you save
And all that you give and all that you deal
And all that you buy, beg, borrow, or steal
And all you create and all you destroy
And all that you do and all that you say
And all that you eat and everyone you meet
And all that you slight and everyone you fight
And all that is now and all that is gone
And all that's to come and everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon

I bet their kids will be playing longer and harder than some other folks kids.

reply

Their kids play outside with other kids instead of sitting in front of the TV all day and playing video games while their brains turn to mush.
I bet you these Amish kids will not need to see therapists for anxiety and depression. In addition, something tells me that you won't have kids questioning their gender identity.

reply

I was thinking more of "medical situations" a la Jamie Foxx et al. but what you said as well.

reply

Ah I see.

too much inbreeding and genetic issues.

reply

Well I'm not saying you should literally become Amish. But they certainly do some things better then us. We should incorporate some of the good things from their culture into our own, while discarding the shit that is whack.
We can be less reliant on technology while avoiding the inbreeding. We can be more communal but without all the strict religious bullshit.
All's I'm saying...

reply

They don't mind using solar panels specifically because the panels don't need to be hooked up to the grid to function.

reply

Yes, exactly. We should all do the same. Having a more decentralized system (for electricity) would be much better and resilient.
