You know those crime investigation walls they use in TV detective/mystery programs?

You know the ones where they pin and tape and tack sticky noted up on a wall and connect then with pins and string to solve a mystery? They seem to be all over the place now.

Does anyone know if anyone really does this, or is it just a thing they do in TV and movies to lay things out for the viewer?

If it is a real thing, do you know how they work? What is the procedure for setting one up and what are the rules for using it?

It's widely used by many. There are no rules, really.

A mind map is a diagram used to visually organize information into a hierarchy, showing relationships among pieces of the whole.

They are real. It's a brainstorming tool. We use them in engineering as well.

What bothers me more is news paper articles pinned to the board. Like who actually does that?

Signed, million man.

What bothers me is that I would have thought that any sufficiently complicated scenario would quickly require the board to be 3d rather than 2d if all the links between items are to be shown logically
