Could movies be better with no names in them?

Obvious financing issue aside, do you think movies could improve if less KNOWN actors starred in them?
Harder workers, smaller paychecks, more money for story development and production.
If the STORY is great enough, Could it work with almost any one in the lead?

reply

It would depend on how good the actors are. A really good unknown actor would be better than a mediocre movie star.

I prefer movies where I don't know anybody from before.

As long as they can act, give them a chance.

Good question.

I don't know about better, how about "possible".

I know this for a fact because of the last 4 films I've seen I thought were really good - 2 of them had unknowns. I mean all unknowns. In the two I'm talking of, the only name I recognized, barely in fact, was Josh Hutcherson. This was:

"Burn"

The other, "Rust Creek", I didn't recognize a soul.

It turned out the unknowns did solid jobs amid interesting stories. So it can be done. If the story is there, you can go nameless and still have a good film.

I feel like it might even be easier to believe the characters if the actors are NOT Tom Cruise or Samuel Jackson etc etc people we've seen hundred times.
Also not having to pay them 10 million or half the budget

HOW LONG CAN YOU MAKE NO NAME MOVIES BEFORE THE NO NAMES BECOME NAMES?...OR DO YOU REPLACE YOUR NO NAMES AFTER EVERY PERFORMANCE?...HOW LONG UNTIL YOU RUN OUT?...HOW DO ASSURE QUALITY ACTING?...HOW DO YOU KEEP THE NAMES FROM INFILTRATING YOUR NO NAME FILM FACTORY?

reply

I don't care about the "stars" but most people seem to. As long an actor creates a believable character, it makes no difference to me if it's Tom Hanks or John Doe. I actually prefer John Doe.

reply

Possibly.

I think a good film will work with the right actors whether they are well known or not. I have seen plenty of films with big stars and even "All Star" casts that have been terrible. Likewise I have seen plenty of films with nobodies which are really good.

It's also a matter of perspective, to me Star Wars as a kid was cast of unknown's of course Alec Guiness & Peter Cushing at the time meant nothing to me.
