Name one of your favourite movies that's in a genre you're not a fan of.

Western - High Noon
Musical - The Lion King

Western- The Hateful Eight
War- Apocalypse Now

reply

I'm the opposite with war. I love the genre, but didn't like Apocalypse Now. (Although I only saw Redux)

reply

Not too crazy about Science Fiction....

Loved "Alien"

reply

Same here. I also love The Matrix, though.

reply

Have you seen "Aliens"?

reply

Yeah. Came out in 86 I believe.

It was all right, but you knew what was coming at that point.

Plus it was Rambo-ized. Meaning the year prior "Rambo: First Blood part 2" was all the rage. This time it was Ripley going crazy with her futuristic armor.

When "ALien" came out, in 79 I believe, it was totally out of the box.

Terrific flick.

reply

I like the first two Alien movies but prefer part 2. It's actually one of my favourite movies and I've probably seen it the most out of any movie I've seen.

reply

Well, I can't join you...

But I respect your opinion all the same.

Horror - Alien

reply

I'm one of the few people that don't consider that a horror movie.

reply

Well, I guess it wasn't as scary as a regular horror flick....

reply

It's more of a suspense movie to me. I don't see the horror aspect.

Musical - Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

reply

Never seen it. That's usually followed by, "you've never seen Willy Wonka?!?!?!"

reply

Indeed😁 I would have asked you that very question!

reply

you've never seen Willy Wonka?!?!?!

reply

No. I remember my class saw it one day in the 3rd grade when I was home sick. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

reply

I'm pretty much a fan of all genres, but going by genres I watch the least, I would say Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

reply

Yeah, sitting here thinking about it - I think I can agree.

One generally finds musicals, on occasion, embarrassingly bad.

WW and TCF - Im speaking specifically of the Gene Wilder version...

It was pretty good. Memorable songs. Memorable story. The acting was good.

Yeah, I second VinceD

reply

Honestly, I’ve never really considered Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory a musical, but you’re right. So, if we follow that path then isn’t The Wicker Man (1973) a musical too??

If it is, then THAT is my favorite musical. 😀

reply

I'm not much of a fan of the western genre, but True Grit (1969; I hated the 2010 version), Unforgiven, Young Guns, Young Guns II, and Quigley Down Under are among my all-time favorite movies. I can't pick just one as my favorite, and I can't think of any other westerns that I care about at all.

I'm not a fan of any of the main genres that Rocky (1976) falls into (sports, drama, romance), but it's one of my favorite movies.

Musical - The Wizard of Oz (1939) (and that's the only one I like at all)

reply

The thing with Westerns for me is that I like a lot of them... but only once. I don't care much for rewatching them with the exception of "High Noon". Westerns are too limited to truly be appealing to me.

reply

Chick Flick- A League of their Own

reply

Pay it forward

This is a hard task because I don't really think there are any bad genres just bad movies

reply

You don't like dramas that much?

reply

I like them. But I guess they aren't my favourite. I could probably count on one or two hands movies I've actually hated. I just like movies.
