Have the machines already won?

Everyday I go outside, I see people's eyes glued to their smartphones. You hear about AI all the time in the news. Many people (including me) can't seem to live without computers and the Internet....

reply

Now they're talking about AI girlfriends/boyfriends. 🤣

There was a recent Christmas I had where I went to my aunt's house. We were all gathered in her basement with a movie playing in the background. Everyone under the age of 50 (excluding babies obviously) was on their phone except me. To make matters worse, the were watching videos on their phone with the sound on.

reply

I could just imagine it!

reply

Me too.

I wouldn't want to give up my PC/internet because it's my primary means of killing time (it replaced broadcast TV in that role 23 years ago), but it certainly doesn't go with me when I leave the house; it always stays sitting on my desk. When I leave the house there is never anything electronic on me.

reply

No phone of any kind? Can I ask what you do?

reply

very true. Personally,'m sick of looking at screens.

reply

I'd say yes, but I feel there is a small portion of humanity who will learn to live without those things, going back to nature and living in harmony with nature. As long as your in the city or surrounding areas, technology will always be present.

reply

probably.

reply

Yes. Some of my little siblings & relatives are so addicted to their phones & social media that they literally can't even hear you talking to them.

You'll be standing over them, calling their name but they still wont hear shit.

When I retire I'm buying a dumbphone and chucking all my screens in the bin. I don't like what social media, the Internet and TV have done to my brain. I can't wait to tear through some books again, as I did as a kid. I'll also go the cinema, if that institution still exists.

I'm the problem and I don't want to be.
