Supposedly John Cleese 'isn't funny any more'

Clearly this has NOTHING to do with the political biases of various untalented and mediocre columnists and commentators who contribute very little to the world...Oh no...

So, who *is* funnier than Cleese according to the 'people in the know'?

Judd Apatow? Jonah Hill? Amy Schumer? Mindy Kaling? Stephen Colbert? Jimmy Kimmel? *sigh*

reply

I don't know if he's still funny or not anymore. I haven't found anything he's been in funny for a while. All I know is Monty Python was great and Fawlty Towers was great and he had a big hand in writing those. That's a bigger contribution to comedy than many of the so called comedians around today, at least in my world. Shame though if he's thinking of writing more Fawlty Towers because I suspect it won't be so good now.

Pretty much exactly how I feel spurtle467.

reply

He's 83.

reply

When did he last make anything funny?

reply

Unlike some of the people I've listed, at least he *has* made something funny.

In other words, it's better to be a 'has-been' than a 'never-was'.

reply

But he's not funny anymore. Got it.

reply

And that requires an entire article because...?

I don't watch Colbert of any of the late night shows regularly, but I think Colbert is very funny, very smart, and very fast on his feet. There's a lot of funny people, but when I think of funny people, John Cleese is not the first on my mind, much as Fawlty Tower would double me over with laughter.
