Carpenter want's to direct a Dracula movie

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/john-carpenter-oppenheimer-christopher-nolan-b2539532.html

“I love directing and under the right circumstances I would do it again,” said Carpenter. “But it can’t be an underfunded movie, you know, and it has to be something I love. A Dracula movie would be nice.”

Someone make this happen!

I don't see anyone taking him up on his offer. Especially not this project since vampire movies haven't been doing too well at the box office recently. Two Dracula movies flopped last year (The Last Voyage of the Demeter and Renfield).

He's made some of my favorite movies of all time but I think his theatrical release career is completely dunzo. He's 76 and hasn't directed a movie in 14 years and that was a comeback after a 9 year hiatus. Two movies in the past 26 years with both of them performing very poorly at the box office.

reply

Sadly, I think you're right it's unlikely.

Nobody is going to pay someone like him, with no digital filming experience. They are not going to pay for 35 MM film for him for a horror movie.

reply

Digital filming... that's the problem with movies nowadays. Maybe we need an old school filmmaker.

reply

perhaps if the right script comes along...

reply

I hope he gets to make one more film.

reply

Ditto.

reply

Awesome. He's younger than Scorsese, who's still making films, so John could do the same.

reply

Yet he looks older. Weird.

reply

As the guys in RLM said, John Carpenter has looked 80 years old since the 1980s.

reply

True. 😄

reply

I would like to see him make one more movie before he dies. Carpenter's a legend and it's a shame that his career essentially died after Ghosts of Mars.

reply

Absolutely. He might just be my favourite director.

reply

I can't make that claim but Big Trouble in Little China is certainly one of my favorite movies of all time. It is an enormously original and creative film.

Honestly I don't know how he went from what he was in the 80s to a non-factor in the industry. I'm not sure how much of that was Hollywood execs shunning him and how much of it was his own decision to step away.

reply

No.

reply

Anything new from him would immediately make my "most anticipated of the year" list, but I'd rather he not direct from the comfort of his living room in his PJ's via Skype.

reply

He want's to, doe's he? I's he seriou's or not? Hi's past movie's have all been winner's, but hes a bit old now. I mean, hes 76, or i's it 77? '''''''''''''''''''''' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' 'ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
