Which one made the best movies? Which one was - or is currently the best director among the four? How would your ranking look?

James Cameron. Cameron has been consistently good, his movies set a new bar in terms of special effects and action sequences, and he revolutionized movies by creating the first true female action hero. Oh, and he's the only director out of the ones you mentioned whose politics were sincere, not phony or pandering.

Nolan is better than all of them. I realize his last two films were a little underwhelming but they were still competently made films
