Does anyone else hate this guy?

From the moment I first saw him, I didn't like him. I first saw him playing his own version of "The Architect" for some MTV Move Awards opening show (with a "Matrix: Reloaded" theme) in the very early 2000s, I didn't like him. He didn't like Neo constantly saying to him "You didn't answer my question," and he finally screamed at the guy to shut up and attacked him.

Every film I've seen him advertised in looked like dog crap, low-brow comedy, and I honestly never found him funny. I couldn't even get satisfaction out of seeing him "wrestling a cougar" in "Taledega Nights" because the cougar looked fake. A few of his films looked gross. Others just rubbed me the wrong way, simply because he was in them. How the hell does this guy keep getting movies made with him as the star?

The only time I could tolerate him on screen was when he played his own version of "Alex Trebek" in "Celebrity Jeopardy," and the guy playing Sean Connery was always snarking at him, getting the category titles wrong, and wanted to insult his mother many times. Now that was worth seeing.

Anyone else feel this way?

I don’t hate him, but I am amazed he has had a career. He is not funny or entertaining. The only movie he is in that I like is Elf, and that is good in spite of him, not because of him. He seems arrogant. I’m amazed that he still finds work. But that is not enough to make me hate somebody.

reply

Dont hate the guy, saw some stuff and his friends he keeps and its like yeah you know what

you aint that funny, and cause of the dodgy shit, yeah its a no for me thanks

Hate is a strong word, but I do find him pretty annoying since I first some him in Night at the Roxbury. He got even sillier and more over the top as his career evolved. Much of his humor involves just screaming loud, and acting like a douchebag. Step Brothers was probably the pinnacle of his buffoonery. He is not funny, he's just annoying and gross

Maybe check out - Everything Must Go 2010 or Stranger Than Fiction 2006. Two movies where Will Ferrell is it a bit more low key. Two really good movies as well.

reply

Stranger Than Fiction is a good movie, and Harold Crick is a very likeable character. But since then I haven't seen him in a good role. Don't hate him though.

reply

Have you watched 'The Shrink Next Door' on Apple TV? Another role that is quite serious. It's based on a true story. It will make you hate Paul Rudd though (well his character) and I never thought I could ever hate Mr Rudd. They both play the part really well.

reply

No, but I'll give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation.
I've recently seen Rudd in Living With Yourself, he was not great, not terrible.

reply

Thanks, I'll check that out. Rudd was good in 'Only Murders in the Building' (Season 4), again playing a bad guy.

'The Shrink Next Door' really shocked me that the situation lasted so long. You will know what I mean if you watch it. I still can't beleive it's a true story.

reply

I did watch it, and I liked it. However, I forgot about you said it was based on a true story, so it was all the more shocking.

reply

I’m glad you liked it. Yes the fact that it’s based on a true story is shocking. Felt so sad for Farrell’s character and the years he could have had with someone special.

No I don’t hate people I don’t know (unless they did something terrible and by something terrible I mean some crime not a bad movie) because I’m not an idiot.

reply

And yet you name yourself Nico’s Nose.

You want to rethink that “I’m not an idiot” declaration?

reply

Honestly I never thought he was funny. It was quite frustrating in college when everyone else around me thought he was the greatest thing ever.

reply

He was good in Anchorman but dumb in just about everything else with the exception of Elf.

reply

Never found him funny.
