And FYI bipolar disorder isn't enough to male a person legally eligible for a conservatorship, conserved people need to be permanently disabled by dementia or a brain injury or something.
Hard to tell if she's off her meds now, or just doing everything she wasn't allowed to do while conserved. I mean, who wouldn't.
Yeah but back when the conservatorship was first put in place, she was really out of her mind. Supposedly threatening to kill herself and her children etc. I think one incident was her locking herself in the bathroom with one of the kids and saying that she was going to kill herself and the kid. I don't know how true it is but that's what I remember from back in the day. So a temporary conservatorship and/or committal seemed reasonable at that time. But for it to have gone on as long as it did is just abuse, plain and simple.
shareShe definitely needed to be *hospitalized* back then, but it's not clear that the conservatorship was ever appropriate (legal). People with bipolar are usually perfectly sane most of the time, and are able to manage their own mental health care, so IF the bipolar is all that's wrong with her then yeah, the long conservatorship was abuse.
FYI most people in mental hospitals don't quality for conservatorships, they may be desperately ill but if they aren't permanently disabled then no go.
Most states absolutely have guardian/conservatorships that are not meant to be last for life…for situations of serious mental distress or physical ailments that are not believed to be permanent.
