This song was actually the start of Al asking permission. At the time, parody was an even grayer area than it is now. He pressed 1,000 copies of the song, along with 3 others, but the song was getting played around the world thanks to the Dr Demento show. Queens management (or lawyers) contacted Al for their cut (100%) of the profits. That's when Al started getting permission so he could not only have the original artists on board with the parody, but to have royalties worked out in advance

I wonder whether parody should be subject to copyright laws. The parody is in itself an intellectual property.
